During this trip we ride to a few astonoshing locations in Tbilisi’s proximity. Through the Brutalist town of Rustavi we end up in Georgia’s semi-dessert. Leaving some dirt trails behind us we ride to the Davit Gareja Monestary. A rock-hewn complex which is still inhabited by monks. From here ride around the lakes and head towards to mountainous roads above Mtskheta, Georgia’s former capital. The road towards the Didgori Battle Memorial is certainly one not to forget. Brand new tarmac in combination with spectacular views. This road seems to be made for us. The memorial itself was built in remembrance of the Georgian-Seljuk wars. A Georgian army, being outnumbered, defeated the Seljuk Turks which ignited one of Georgia’s most prosperous eras.
With yet more windy roads we enter Tbilisi and are treated with views over the city as far as the horizon.
